Backyard Sports Cares (BYSC) is the non profit (501c3) division of Backyard Sports, the leading provider of community team sports programs for kids of all ages in Westchester County. Established in 2005, Backyard Sports is committed to replacing today’s “win at all costs” mentality of youth sports with an approach that promotes increased self confidence and a lifetime love of sports while maximizing the athletic potential of each participant. Backyard Sports Cares was created to bring these ideals to children who have limited access to traditional youth sports programs, including children with special needs.

In March of 2011, Beverly’s Birthdays founder, Megan Yunn “Megs”, was volunteering at a local afterschool program and was helping a young girl named Beverly complete her homework. Beverly was asked to use the word “accustomed to” in a sentence. Trying to provide her with an example of how to use the word, Megs said “Beverly, at a birthday party people are accustomed to eating what?” Beverly responded, “I have never had a birthday party or a birthday cake.”

At 12 years old Beverly had never had a birthday party of her own. Inspired by Beverly’s story, Megs decided to start her own organization that provides birthday celebrations for homeless youth in the Pittsburgh Region. In June of 2011, Megs submitted her idea to the “BE BIG in Your Community Contest,” a signature component of the ongoing Clifford The Big Red Dog® BE BIG!™ campaign sponsored by American Family Insurance and was selected as a first place winner out of over 1,000 entries in the nation. Beverly’s Birthdays received a starter grant to help make Megs dream a reality.

Our Mission: We believe in spreading birthday cheer 365 days a year and that every child, regardless of personal or financial circumstances deserves a birthday celebration.

My name is Anna. I’m twelve years old and from New York City. I had an idea. I wanted to create a charity that throws birthday parties for children in need. There are so many kids who live in New York City and around the country who never get to celebrate their birthday, never get to know what it’s like to have a room full of people sing to them, close their eyes, blow out candles and make a wish or unwrap a gift. I want to change that, and with your help I know we can.

I’m not going to tell you that a cupcake can change someone’s life but people who care can! Every kid deserves a birthday! You can help make it possible. All we want to do is bring a little bit of happiness to someone’s day, celebrate them and let them know that they are loved.

The mission of Birthday Wishes is to provide birthday parties for homeless children. We believe that all children, regardless of their living situation, should celebrate their birthdays joyfully, surrounded by family, friends, and others who care.

Our grassroots philosophy fosters the spirit of volunteerism and community service in the adults, children, and families who donate their time and resources to the Birthday Wishes mission.

Birthday Wishes brings the magic of a birthday party to thousands of homeless children each year. Founded in 2002 as a volunteer organization serving one local shelter, Birthday Wishes has expanded its program to serve more than 185 shelters and transitional living facilities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Long Island, New York. Our goal is to provide birthday parties to all homeless children in Massachusetts and to make our model available to homeless family programs nationwide.

With more than 130 years of experience, Blythedale is a nationally recognized leader in developing innovative, multidisciplinary inpatient programs.

As one of only 14 pediatric specialty hospitals in the United States, Blythedale has the combined staff, expertise and resources – including the largest pediatric therapy department in New York State – to provide exceptional comprehensive care for medically complex children and support for their families. We were the first hospital in the United States to develop a post-NICU/PICU program and we are New York State’s only children’s hospital with its own K-12 public school district on site. In addition, we have received numerous awards and recognition for positive outcomes related to patient safety.

Planning for discharge home begins upon admission. Our goal is to help our patients return to their families and communities.
